Targhee POW Foundation Grantees
This year, in that small window between when the resort closes for the winter and resort employees migrate to southern locales, the Grand Targhee Resort POW Foundation awarded eight local non-profits the funds for projects ranging from trail restoration to swan habitat preservation.
The Targhee Protect Our Winters Foundation collects donations throughout the year from employees who generously donate a specified amount from each paycheck. These donations are matched 100% by Grand Targhee. This past winter we encouraged our guests to participate for the first time through special POW Targhee Two-Fer days - an opportunity to get a great deal on lift tickets and give back at the same time!
The Targhee POW Foundation is made up of a team of employees, who receive grants from local non-profits and award money based on how well the grants maintain the mission of the foundation - dedication to the enhancement and protection of the environmental quality of Teton Valley through projects that protect ecosystems, promote environmental education and foster community stewardship of natural resources.
Through employee paycheck donations, matching funds from Grand Targhee Resort and special Targhee POW-focused fundraiser promotions throughout the winter we were able to raise over $8000 this season and received a total of 11 grant applications. A committee of resort Green Team members reviewed each grant in detail and narrowed down the selections.
The committee selected the following grants for either full or partial funding:
- Teton Valley Trails & Pathways Jed Smith Wilderness trail restoration ($1,500)
- Friends of the Teton River Water Wise education series ($2,000)
- The Learning Academy of Teton Valley school & community garden supplies ($664)
- Teton Soil Conservation District educational signage re: noxious weeds ($1,500)
- Teton Regional Land Trust trumpeter swan habitat enhancement ($2,000)
- Full Circle Education sustainable living teacher education/training ($500)
