WYDAHO wrap up
Grand Targhee Resort was a hotbed of activity this past weekend with $4 food and beverage deals, $4 chairlift rides, the 14th Annual WYDAHO MTB race and the 1st Annual Fred’s Hill Climb creating quite the scene on the main plaza.
Visitors from near and far gathered at the base area to soak in the sun and scenery - and ponder what would motivate someone to race up a mountain on a day, in many places, dedicated to celebrating one of the most cherished of American freedoms: the right to do nothing.

The WYDAHO Bike Race drew a record number of participants (90) and a record-breaking time for the first place finisher, John Curry of Bozeman, MT who completed the cross-country course in 1:25:39. A special shout-0ut to Troy Barry, a GTR-sponsored rider, who came in second at 1:27:37.

For those who prefer two feet to two wheels, the inaugural Fred’s Hill Climb drew a talented and debatably genetically superior group of runners to the ‘ghee. Ty Mack of Tetonia finished first with a time of 0:30:39. That’s 30 minutes to race 2000 feet uphill - starting out at 8000 feet above sea level.

The competitor who took the unofficial “crowd favorite” award was Nico McGee, a four-year-old from Jackson Hole and a local bike racing legacy, who drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd for his mastery of his balance bike around the kids course.

A few post-event shout-0uts to Andy Williams, Jay Batchen and Lisa Smith-Batchen for organizing the races, to our friends at Peaked Sports for the awesome raffle prizes, and to all who came out to celebrate Independence Day Wydaho-style!
