One of the most challenging mountain bike endurance races?  Isn’t that like saying one of the snowiest avalanches?  It’s an endurance race – aren’t they all challenging?

Well, yes.  But we’re talking about a unique group of mtb racers here.  100 miles on a mountain bike, as fast as you can go?  Only the top sadomasicists athletes on wheels sign up for that sort of pleasure and pain.

This past Saturday a group of these challenge-seekers descended upon Grand Targhee Resort for the inaugural Pierre’s Hole, a 25 mile loop of mostly singletrack gaining a blistering 4600 feet in elevation on each lap.

GTR’s Troy Barry = King of the Cream Puff

Deep in the Jedhi Forest

Deep in the Jedhi Forest

Don’t let the name fool you.  There’s nothing sweet and airy about this annual endurance mountain bike race.

The two-legged powerhouse known locally as Troy Barry recently took the overall title at  The Cascade Cream Puff.  Deemed “America’s Toughest 100 Mile Mountain Bike Race” the route gains an incredible 18000 feet in elevation over 107 miles of grueling singletrack in typical northwest weather conditions.

Troy finished the race in  just 9:44:31 and was one of only three riders to crack the 10 hour mark.

A huge congratulations to Troy from his fans and friends at the ‘ghee.

First Facebook Membership Drive

facebookAfter spending a few months of figuring out the who, how and why of Facebook, we have to say we’re sold.  It is a great way to keep our guests and fans informed of the latest news and conditions and to hear what might be getting them excited or frustrated.  It’s been particularly useful this summer in sharing updates on our mountain biking trail conditions and additions to our new skills park.

Today we reached 2000 fans, and to help keep the momentum going we’re kicking off our first Facebook Membership Drive!  Here’s the deal:

If we make it to 2500 fans by Wednesday July 22, all Facebook fans who RSVP to our “FREE FACEBOOK FAN DAY” event will receive unlimited free access to the DC chairlift on Saturday, July 25. Invite your friends to join by clicking “suggest to friends” underneath our profile pic (click on “more” to see it).  Find us here at: http://www.facebook.com/grandtarghee.

We will schedule the event on our Facebook page as we near the July 22 deadline.

Happy friending!
